In Their Footsteps

Artist, writer and performer, Jack Trow retraced the steps of Jubilee by searching for the exact locations depicted in images from the archive. As the first-born child of Jubilee co-founders, Kate Organ and Steve Trow, what started as a family pilgrimage soon grew into a wider cultural treasure hunt.

His search reveals relics and ghosts of Sandwell’s cultural identity; an identity which pre-dates Jubilee, represented through Jubilee’s work, which still endures today.

Following in the (literal) footsteps of those people and that work and plotting them on the map uncovered a trail of creativity and activism that shone a light on the unique creativity of the Black Country. It told the story of people who create through play and protest; who have things to say, worlds to imagine and lives to change; people who stand in this place and invite you to tell your story, on your terms, in your way. All we have to do is follow in their footsteps.
