This ornate volume contains the signatures of every man, woman, and child who purchased saving stamps during West Bromwich’s 1941 warship week – which funded the refit of the hull of HMS Galatea. Warship Weeks were national campaigns conducted during the Second World War to build new warships ‘adopted’ by civil communities.
I find the sheer number of signatures featured within this book very powerful. They represent a strong sense of community, as well as how determined the men, women and children of West Bromwich were to play their part in the war effort.
